Sagami Railway adds i-FILTER Harmful Information Countermeasures Edition to 1,100 employee tablets
— Secure access management that doesn't rely on the web —

Information security solutions provider Digital Arts Inc. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; CEO: Toshio Dogu; hereinafter referred to as "Digital Arts"; Code 2326) is pleased to announce that on December 18 it released a case study of the introduction of the web security product i-FILTER@Cloud Harmful Information Countermeasures Edition by Sagami Railway Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa; CEO: Hiroshi Chihara).

Connecting with Sotetsu Business Service and strengthening security

Sagami Railway is the core company of the Sotetsu Group's transportation business and their railway operator. The Sotetsu Line offers both convenience and easy living with quick access to Tokyo and many large parks and green spaces in the quiet suburbs perfect for raising children that it passes through.

The company works closely with Sotetsu Business Service, a shared services company within the same group, as their primary information security provider.
Manager of the company's corporate management division, Takashi Yonamoto, said regarding security, "We are building a secure network that can be continually improved upon as we know that we need to be able to keep up with new security threats. By increasing transparency in our security, we hope to be able to safely and securely share information both internally and externally."

Introduction of i-FILTER@Cloud Harmful Information Countermeasures Edition and non-browser-based web access management

The company has begun using Digital Arts' i-FILTER@Cloud Harmful Information Countermeasures Edition and installed it on their network of around 1,100 tablets used by their office workers, train crews, train maintenance staff, station staff and railroad facility and equipment maintenance.
i-FILTER@Cloud Harmful Information Countermeasures Edition is a cloud-based web security product that prevents the viewing of harmful or irrelevant websites and internal leaks. Device access log management and web service controls also provide measures against shadow IT.
The company previously used a piece of MDM web filtering software, but the supported browsers were limited. Some cloud services were not supported by browsers, thus the services could not operate correctly. As a result, they decided to look into web security products that do not rely on browsers to run.

Ease of management benefits company-wide rules

The company blocks categories not related to work and restricts access to websites to prevent personal use of company-loaned tablets.
Sotetsu Business Service systems manager Takumi Yoshida said, "As an administrator, I felt that the system was very easy to use. The system we previously used required the registration of keywords we wanted to control access to, but this also sometimes caused issues as it would also block safe websites. However, with i-FILTER@Cloud, we can simply choose the web access rules for the categories already prepared by Digital Arts, meaning that we can access websites within the categories we have allowed with no issues."

Future security measures

The company will continue to work closely with Sotetsu Business Service to provide training for employees and raise the level of information literacy within the company. Additionally, they plan to introduce security products and specific security guidelines to ensure that access to networks outside of their internal local area network is safe and secure.

While demand for rail services has struggled to recover to pre-COVID levels due to the introduction of work from home, the company is still striving to provide safe, secure and sustainable transportation and will continue to work to improve comfort for its passengers to become their "railway line of choice."
